Hello Brookside Farmers' Market Community!
We have had a great 2019 market season, and it's not over yet! We will be holding the Annual Market Meeting, including the election of the Board of Directors, on November 2nd, 2019 at 12:30PM at the Winter Market location: Research Medical - Brookside Campus, Curry Educational Center 6675 Holmes Rd. Kansas City, MO.
This is a mandatory meeting for all regular season vendors and market members.
At this meeting, we will review the successes and challenges of the past season, look forward to 2020, and elect new members and officers to the Board of Directors.
Join Farmer Brooke & Farmer Dan for a casual "open farm" with self-guided tours. Experience regenerative agriculture in KC's urban core: animal-powered veggie fields, orchards, pastured poultry, baby chicks, pastured hogs, beehives, and a wild array of biodiversity. Check-out our solar-powered farmstead and take a walk through our earth-berm home built by Farmer Dan. Complimentary craft beer from Crane Brewery and gourmet crepes for purchase from Seven Swans Creperie.
*This is a zero waste event! Bring a reusable cup and a lawn chair or picnic blanket. We'll relax, sip libations, and watch the sunset as the beautiful buxom hogs prance about the fields!
*Parking: park on the street or in the parking lot. Head through the entrance gate, grab a farm map, and be prepared to walk up a hill.
RAIN-OUT DATE: Thursday, October 10th
Join David's Pasture and St Clair Farmstead for a joint farm tour.
We will begin at David's Pasture with a wagon tour of both properties, and end at St Clair Farmstead.
St. Clair Farmstead is excited to open up our farm for our first tour this year. Our tour will be somewhat self-guided. We will be walking around with people to answer questions and explain in detail what we do and how we grow. We will have a display of the tools and products we use to grow food. Everything on our farm will be open and available for folks to peruse.
Bring a dish and join us at the farm for our annual potluck and open house. All are welcome, including our 100 CSA member families, market customers, friends and family.
The potluck provides for us all to eat well and enjoy an afternoon together on the farm. Activities start at 3 pm with farm and kitchen tours, a scavenger hunt and lawn games. Check out the new little flock of laying hens that will be 1 month old by then. Take a walk through our native grasses and soak up the country quiet. Potluck dinner at 5 pm.
Bring a dish to share with a list of ingredients, plus any other picnic attire you would like (camp chairs, blankets, lawn games, musical instruments). We will provide compostable dinner ware, non-alcoholic drinks, Parker Farm dogs and burgers and vegetarian chili.

Sacred Sun Cooperative Farm is a 40-acre organic farming community, nestled among the rolling hills of NE Kansas, just north of Lawrence. Established in 2013, they strive to grow in diversity for their table and yours, cultivating a wide assortment of vegetables and fruit, grains and dry beans, culinary and medicinal herbs, chicken, and eggs. They also produce an assortment of value-added foods, including sprouted flours, masa harina, tinctures, and herbal teas.
Cave Cultivated Creations aims to provide the freshest quality gourmet mushrooms in the heartland. Our mushrooms are grown in an underground cave system which provides an ideal growing environment year round. We thrive on engaging with the community while sharing information about the amazing benefits of fungi for the people & the planet.
The mushroom cave tour is expected to last one hour after the tour attendees are invited back to our home where they will have a chance to see our substrate oven, enjoy a fire and we will cook up a few mushrooms for people to try!
Join us at Messenger Cafe / Ibis Bakery for a Brookside Farmers Market Cheese Slipper collaboration.
Slipper is the French translation of the word Ciabatta, Ibis's slipper is then filled with fontina, cheddar, and gruyere cheeses and topped with a rotating selection of local vegetables.
Grab your friends, score a piping hot slipper fresh from the oven and pop up to the rooftop with some great wine or beers and enjoy the sunset.
Save room for our rotating dessert selection provided by the Ibis pastry team - think homemade ice cream sandwiches among other delicious treats!
Mellowfields Farm cultivates almost four acres of Kansas River bottom ground on the outskirts of Lawrence, Kansas. After several years of being somewhat nomadic in our growing, hopping from neighbors' yards to leasing land from the City of Lawrence as part of its Common Ground program, we finally "graduated" to our own farm. We look forward to years of cultivating and caring for this soil and building a farm business that will last.
This will be a walking tour, so wear sturdy shoes and hats. We have a bathroom and refreshments. There will be produce available for purchase as well.
